Common Questions ...
Is home birth safe for me and my baby?
For low-risk pregnancies, research shows that planned home birth with a qualified midwife is a safe option. We prioritize clinical safety through careful selection criteria and monitoring mother and baby throughout labor as well as progress of labor. You can learn more about the safety of home birth with midwives here.
What are your licensing and qualifications?
Licensed midwives in the state of Florida have completed a 3 year intensive midwifery program with requirements that exceed national qualifications. Certified professional midwives are experts in normal birth for low-risk pregnancies and collaborate with physicians and other practitioners for higher risk scenarios and prescriptions.
Do you accept insurance for home birth?
We are not currently in network with insurance. However, we will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company after your care is completed to request reimbursement. Please be aware that your insurance company may or may not reimburse you. We can also refer you to a billing specialist for verification of benefits per request.
How do I know if I qualify for care?
We carefully screen our clients to make sure that you are a candidate for natural birth outside of the hospital. We will determine this based on your medical history and physical examination as well as distance to a labor and delivery unit and neonatal intensive care unit.
Do you offer waterbirth?
Yes! Hydrotherapy is a popular pain relief option for many women during labor. Most women desiring this option are a candidate for laboring/giving birth in water. We can provide you with recommendations for birth tub rentals.
What do I need for a home birth?
We will provide you with a checklist to prepare for your birth. This includes a list of supplies as well as a clean, uncluttered birth space and a well-lit clearly marked outside entrance. We will also provide instructions to order a custom birth kit.
What happens if a hospital transfer is needed?
While the majority of clients who come into care remain in care, safety is our top priority. If we determine hospital care is safer, we maintain collaborative relationships with local facilities to ensure a smooth transition and will facilitate a transfer of care. Typically, our transfers are non-emergent though we are trained in birth emergency skills.

What others have to say...
"Ashley was everything I needed in the pregnancy, labor and postpartum of my second child. My first birth went well but I had postpartum complications and was terrified of that happening again. Ashley validated all of my worries in pregnancy and when the morning came and my water broke but contractions hadn't started yet, Ashley was incredibly calm and supportive. We discussed a few options to encourage labor. She is truly the best blend of evidenced based care and ancient midwifery wisdom. She made my nervous system feel at ease and I truly believe that was a huge reason why I was able to rest a bit and eventually get things going. I didn't feel I was "on the clock" like many so often feel in the hospital. One of my favorite things about midwifery care is that Ashley came to my house at 48 hours postpartum for a visit. It was amazing to not have to pack anything up and leave! I was able to call her multiple times when I had questions and she answered so thoughtfully. Even if you're giving birth in a hospital, I cannot recommend prenatal midwifery care with Ashley enough. Knowing someone qualified and kind is there for you and will be responsive in the most vulnerable time of your life is priceless." Melissa M
"My overall care was a great experience. I never felt rushed during appointments and always felt well cared for. During the birth, Ashley was amazing at encouraging a calm and peaceful environment, helping me through a challenging post birth with such wisdom and peace, and making my whole birth experience a beautiful and memorable one! I have great trust in her and glad to have found her." Leslie C
"I highly recommend Radiant Midwifery. Ashley is kind, knowledgeable and a great listener. I felt like she cared about me as a person and wanted the best outcome of my birth. If I were to get pregnant again, I would be back in a heartbeat. In fact, my previous birth had been with Ashley at a different location and I sought her out to have this baby. So glad I did!" Alison O
"...I gave birth in the tub, which is exactly what I wanted. Ashley was so calm during my birth and had faith in me and in my instincts, more so than I had in myself! She was exactly the energy I needed with saying the right thing at the exact moments I needed to hear it. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a safe, smart, competent midwife who truly have your best interest in mind!" Ilaura L
"Ashley was my midwife for my third and fourth babies. She is so sweet and kind and knowledgeable. Ashley really listens to you and gives you the space to make your own decisions while also offering advice and guidance when it is needed. My birth with my daughter was tough but Ashley was a steady rock. Her tone never changed. When I was fearful I was comforted by her confidence and calm demeanor. I wasn't dilating as quickly as I wanted even though the contractions were so painful. She had to encourage me to walk or be upright even though I didn't want to. I was struck by how well she handled me. She was firm and direct while also being so warm and gentle. You don't often meet people who can strike this balance so perfectly. When we got pregnant with our fourth baby I knew I didn't want to give birth without Ashley. Once again, she was the calm and steady influence I needed in my birth. I just truly love her! She will always be special to our family and I will forever be grateful for her. We are moving out of state but I would seriously consider flying back across the country just so she can be our midwife again." Heather M
